What is the Sitting Service?
Our Sitting Service enables you to take a break from your role as a carer and have some time for yourself secure in the knowledge that the person you care for is being looked after. This free service is provided for up to 3 hours at a time by trained and vetted volunteers. They provide company for the person you care for and are a presence in case of emergency.
We can provide a maximum of twelve sits in a year.
Am I eligible for the Sitting Service?
The main requirement for the service is the person you care for should not need any personal care or help with lifting and moving. Any other issues can be discussed beforehand with your Support Worker or our Sitting Service Co-ordinator.The Sitting Service Coordinator will visit you at home to make sure you are eligible.
How will a suitable volunteer be chosen?
Our Sitting Service Co-ordinator will meet with you and discuss the needs, likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests of yourself and the person you care for. From this information she will bring a volunteer to meet you both. You can then make sure that everyone is happy with the match before a sit takes place.
Our volunteer sitters have all been interviewed to assess their suitability and received training. They have provided two references and undergone a Criminal Records check. They also have regular support meetings with the Volunteer Manager.
When can I have sits?
Our Sitting Service is currently available seven days a week, including evenings, up to twelve times a year. Please not though there may be less availability at weekends and in the evenings, but we will try to meet your needs. The times and frequency of the sits are at your request, subject to the volunteer’s availability.
